head Over Heels

by Jeff Whitty and James Magruder is a Jukebox musical that uses 16th century heightened language and story based on Philip Sidney’s The Countess of Pembroke’s Arcadia.

One of the most important goals in this production, in order to acknowledge the current time and circumstances we live in, was to create a new set of standards for the actors participating in this production around the comfortability of the garments. It is my belief in order to perform at your best you need to be comfortable in the clothes on your body. There are so many things you have to worry about, and being uncomfortable in your garments for whatever reason should not be one of them. We worked in collaboration to create a look that not only served the character and the story but also the actor.

In addition to the previous point previously stated, we also set out to reduce as much waste within the designs as possible. In an effort to do this, before creating any renderings, I sorted through the stock and pulled garments and fabrics that could be adjusted and reconfigured to reflect the conversations I had with the actors and production team as well as the research that I had done and my vision for the costumes.
